Imagine that! Entrepreneurs Advised to keep day job!

I read this from a Chicago Business Article. I thought it was quite interesting. For as long as I have been in direct sales, they always pushed doing your business full time when in reality that does not fit for everyone. So enjoy the post!

Quit your job and devote all of your energy (and finances) to starting a business: That once sounded like the best formula for entrepreneurial success. But at times like this, when jobs are scarce, would-be entrepreneurs are gravitating toward a safer and, in some ways, more challenging path: moonlighting—keeping a full-time job while nurturing a startup in their off hours.

“In the end, it's probably the smartest thing,” says Barry Moltz, a Chicago-based business consultant and contributor to Crain's small-business blog, Enterprise City. “Because you don't know if you're going to be successful and you don't know if you're cut out to be an entrepreneur.”

Tiffany Kurtz started a cupcake business in 2009 with her husband, who works in automotive retail management. Ms. Kurtz, a marketing executive in the Chicago office of New York-based OmniCom Group Inc., had been thinking about starting a side business for a while. Last fall, she finally decided the time was right.

“The economy was really going south,” Ms. Kurtz says. “And especially in advertising and marketing, people were losing their jobs left and right. . . .You just never know what's going to happen.”

Their business, Flirty Cupcakes, sells baked goods out of a van that cruises downtown Chicago. Because the location and hours of the van (known by customers as “Big Blue”) change daily, its whereabouts are updated through social media. Flirty Cupcakes has more than 3,600 followers on Twitter and 7,300 Facebook fans.

Ms. Kurtz, 40, and her husband saw Flirty Cupcakes as a small venture they could start with their savings. They expected to invest about $20,000 to outfit the van; it ultimately cost $50,000. That included the addition of a generator, a second air conditioner and replacement of the van's floor and walls—twice. (The first time, the city's health department said the van's interior wasn't smooth enough.)

Ms. Kurtz and her husband drive the van on some nights and weekends, but they've hired two bakers and two drivers to help carry the load.

Tricia Gott, meanwhile, is thinking about beer—when she's not working as a lead systems analyst for OfficeMax Inc. With Rich Szydlo, head bartender at Chicago restaurant onesixtyblue, she has launched Big Shoulders Beer Co.

Tired but Excited

Yes family I am tired but excited today. What did Morris Chestnut say in that movie with Gabriel Union, "love keeps running from me" "I go left, it goes right". Well I think it has finally stop running and set a course for collision dead ahead! I would have never thought that I would fall in love that way I have after all the hurt I have gone thru. It feels good for a change! So I am on cloud 19 for now!

A Few Good Black Men Left

I had to write a special blog today because I had truly written off dating black men. I really believed that there were GOOD AVAILABLE ones left on this planet. All I ever came across were low life scum.

We this past weekend I was proved entirely and completely wrong. Its not that they don't exist, they are a dying breed. It is so hard to find them, you have to look within the fabric of our society (nooks and crannies).

I have had the honor to meet the "PERFECT GENTLEMAN" in every sense. He doesn't know this but I think that he is my HERO in every since. He symbolizes the hard working, driven to success, intelligent, sensitive, yet humble black man that I have never met. Once my dad, but even he was missing a lot of these attributes. Don't get me wrong I know that no man is perfect, but if there was a such thing as a perfect man "HE" would be the picture in the dictionary depiciting THE PERFECT Man.

Here's to you darlin. You know who you are. Stay true to you and I hope and pray that I can find the Perfect Mate that symbolizes everything you are.

Living a Life of Celibacy- Challenging

Living a life of celibacy I must say has been the hardest decision that I have ever had to make. I wish that I had made this decision a long time ago. I have seen men practically serve it up on a platter at a chance to prove I can't be celibate.

What I did find was that the men in my life that I thought respected after being in a relationship with them for 4 years or more, was that they never respected me from day 1. Why is it that when a relationship breaks up, you hear all the things about you that they were thinking and never had the courage to say.

What I must say to that is thank you. Thank you for opening my eyes to the underlying problem....ME. It was ME who allowed myself to get involved with such low lives. It was ME who did not muster up enough self confidence to see my worth and my value. I can't blame them. I have to start with myself.

Now that I now my self worth, it's on. No more of that girl who was display low self estem and confidence in her worth. I don't know why more African American fathers don't tell their daughters that they are beautiful or strength the bond. I know that was lacking in my life. Even though my father taught me values of hard work and business sense, he forgot I was his little girl. He forgot that me was the 1st man in my life that should have told me he loved me. He should have explanined to me how men take advantage of women and how I was a strong queen who should never settle for less.

But that's okay, the lesson has been learned.
