Cardiovascular Disease--The number one killer of all Americans but several studies show it is far worse for African Americans who are at greater risk for coronary disease or stroke. Poor nutrition, lack of exercise, cigarette smoking and family history coupled with high blood pressure and cholesterol concerns are the significant contributors to the development of these diseases. Dr. Fowler says that proper nutrition and exercise is the key to reversing the downward spiral. He adds that eating fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel which contain omega 3 fatty acids can help significantly. Also, cholesterol and blood pressure lowering drugs can be beneficial.

-- Diabetes--African Americans have more complications.

 Vitamin D Deficiency--African Americans have larger amounts of melanin which filters sunlight and decreases the absorption of the sun's rays necessary for Vitamin D production. Dr. Fowler says there are few sources of Vitamin D other than sunlight and milk. Cheese and other dairy products are less effective. In addition, many African Americans are lactose intolerant, so the most common food sources are not options. Vitamin D supplements are the answer!

If you are reading your labels on your personal care products, I commend you right now, stand up and pat your back. Job well done. If you are one of those shoppers that just go thru the aisles looking for the best deal (cheap) or at the dollar store getting those $1 brand beauty products, sit down, YOU ARE ABOUT TO GET VERY ANGRY. If you are sharing these with your children, YOU ARE ABOUT TO GET HOT UNDER THE COLLAR. Why don't they educate about these things in school?

I find that our parents were told this was good, and generations just keep following not questions where did this come from or what is it? It time people to WAKE UP!

Lanolin is simply the wax taken from sheep's wool, (sheep’s dandruff) after the sheep has been shorn. The clipped wool is covered with a pale-yellow, water repellent wax. Also known as wool fat. It's extracted from the wool by a boiling process. This is crude lanolin (ewww!)

Sailors and soldiers alike all used lanolin as a very effective anti-corrosion and waterproofing agent for a variety of metals, materials, timbers, and also to protect sails, leather, cannons, etc. It is naturally foul-smelling, but loses its odor when refined for cosmetic products. Lanolin can be found in soaps, many cosmetics, ointments, creams, and is used as a lubricant, and in finishing and preserving leather. Surprisingly it is also an ingredient in some varnishes and paints and in some shoe polish. Many people have allergic reactions to it. It can also clog your skin's pores and may cause you to break out.

Problems: eczema, diaper rash, itchy skin, hair breakage and damage and many more

There are two problems with lanolin.

1. It can be refined to acceptable cosmetic grade and still contain impurities, some of which can be allergens. People who are allergic to lanolin are probably allergic to unrelated ingredients that were not removed in the refining process. Also, some manufacturers use a chemical bleach to whiten the color.

2. Some lanolin can be tainted with DDT, dieldrin, lindane, or other toxic pesticides. It's possible for these carcinogens to make their way into our skincare products. This is because the sheep may be eating food that has been treated with these or other insecticides.

A lot of these direct sales company still use chemicals, lanolin and mineral oil in their products..trust me I used to sell them..you know them with the catalogs and cheap 1.99 lip gloss, or the pink cadillac ladies with the harmful alcohol in the products. I know because I have read every ingredient in these products I USED to sell. I GREW A CONSCIOUS... I could no longer sell these harmful products to the community.

•Antispasmodic: Peppermint oil is very effective for gastroscopy, colonoscopy and during double-contrast barium enema. It is applied intraluminally. Further benefits of peppermint oil due to its antispasmodic properties are being studied.

•Urinary Tract Infection: Peppermint oil can be used for treating urinary tract infection (UTI). However, thorough scientific studies are yet to be conducted to confirm this.

Living a Life of Celibacy- Challenging

Living a life of celibacy I must say has been the hardest decision that I have ever had to make. I wish that I had made this decision a long time ago. I have seen men practically serve it up on a platter at a chance to prove I can't be celibate.

What I did find was that the men in my life that I thought respected after being in a relationship with them for 4 years or more, was that they never respected me from day 1. Why is it that when a relationship breaks up, you hear all the things about you that they were thinking and never had the courage to say.

What I must say to that is thank you. Thank you for opening my eyes to the underlying problem....ME. It was ME who allowed myself to get involved with such low lives. It was ME who did not muster up enough self confidence to see my worth and my value. I can't blame them. I have to start with myself.

I don't know why more African American fathers don't tell their daughters that they are beautiful or strength the bond. I know that was lacking in my life. Even though my father taught me values of hard work and business sense, he forgot I was his little girl. He forgot that me was the 1st man in my life that should have told me he loved me. He should have explanined to me how men take advantage of women and how I was a strong queen who should never settle for less.

But that's okay, the lesson has been learned.
